Tips for Better Health


One of my friends, Jack, who lives in New York, leads a busy life. In the past, he had some unhealthful habits like smoking, consuming alcohol, eating fast food, etc. But soon he came to realize that he was paying a price for them. Its better to realize your bad habits and to improve theme. Jack did the same after realizing about his bad habits, he stopped smoking, intake of alcohol and start eating healthy food. Now, he is so health that in the last four years, he hasn't taken more than one sick day a year. He reports " I feel enthusiastic and always awake and alert. I enjoy life."

Many of you, who has the same bad habits like that of Jack and want to change these habits would like to know how Jack did control over his bad habits?
The answer is very simple and can be followed by any of you. He just made an adjustment to his routine. He add some important activities and some prevention in his schedule. As the saying goes, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So he did and got a fit and fine health.

Its nice saying which describes the eating habit. What it means?

Eat Fresh Food-
Today's life is so fast that people have no time to cook the food for themselves. They enjoy modern processed foods instead of "real" food - whole, fresh food. They know that prepackaged food and fast food usually contain high levels of sugar, salt, spices and fat, which harms their health and are associated with heart disease, stroke, obesity, cancer and other serious illness. But even after that they consume these fast food and  packaged food.
To stay healthy we should avoid all these artificial packaged food. When cook, try boiling or steaming instead of frying. Never eat spoiled food. Use less spices.

Do Not Eat Too Much
According to the reports from World Health Organization, overeating is one major cause for the worldwide increase of overweight and obese people. One study found that in parts of Africa,"there are more children who are overweight than malnourished'. Obesity is the cause of many other dangerous diseases like heart problems, stroke, etc. Obese children are at the threshold of the health problems. Parents should have a check on the eating habits of their children. They should set good examples for their children by molding their eating habits to that way which are healthy for them as well as for their children.

Drink Plenty of Fluids
Intake of liquid helps in the proper working of digestion system. Adults and children need to drink plenty of water and other unsweetened liquids every day. According to the doctors one should drink 8-10 glass of water every day. Intake of liquid make healthier skin and promote weight loss also. Intake of liquid during excessive physical work or exercise prevents the lack of water in human body. Avoid intake of alcohol and sweetened drinks. Water should be intake in pure form. Always drink clean water. Use tainted water after boiling. Mother feed is recommended for the infants.

  • Take Care of Basic Body Needs

Taking basic steps to care for yourself can make a world of differences in your health.

Get Enough Rest
"Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work".
In today's busy life this quote defines the importance of rest in one's busy life. The demand of modern life has reduced the time people spend sleeping. But proper sleep is essential for good health. Sleep reinforce the immune system and reduces the risk of infection, diabetes, stroke, heart diseases, depression and many other dangerous diseases. Sleep works like energy pills for the memory and mood.
Researches shows that for an adult 7-8 hours of sleep are required. Infants and toddlers need approx 18-20 hrs of sleep.

Go to the Doctor
Go for a complete body check-up once in a year even then when you don't feel any sickness or other health problem. It helps to early diagnose which results in better outcome and less expensive.

Keep Yourself Clean
"Cleanness of body was ever deemed to proceed from a due reverence to God."
According to the reports of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,"Hand washing is the single most important thing that you can do to help prevent the spread of infection and to stay healthy and well."
So, parents should trained their children for the habit of hand wash. Wash your hands before and after taking the meal, after coming from outside. Clean your hands before touching to any wound and even after touching it. Do so even after touching an animal, using the toilet, changing the baby's diaper. 
Take a bath every day. Wean clean clothes. Use clean linens, towels, handkerchief, etc.
Don't let the babies to keep their hands in the mouth or nose. 
These little but important tasks always contribute to keep you healthy and fit.

Keep your Home Clean
Its saying that " Keep your home and its environs clean; it will ensure health and happiness for you and for society." 
Do whatever extra efforts are required to keep your home clean and tidy. People spend their maximum time in home so the environment of the home effects the body and health a lot. Clean your home everyday. Eliminate the places where water can collect because collected water is the home for mosquitoes and other insects. Never keep any food uncovered. Keep your toilet, dustbin and other litter clean and clear because these places attract insects and vermin, all of which can cause disease.

Avoid Infectious Disease
We catch many diseases by infection from any family member like cold or the flu. So avoid sharing of eating utensils and close physical contact with any who have a cold or the flu. Vaccination can help to prevent some infections, but a wise person must still take necessary precautions when with someone who has an infectious diseases. Avoid insect bits. Use mosquitoes net, especially for children.

Avoid Injuring Yourself
Follow safety rules when working in kitchen. Take protection when working with household appliances. Use those appliances only if you know how to operate them. Be careful while driving a car or riding a scooter or motorcycle. Use appropriate safety equipment like safety headgear, proper footwear, seat belt, etc. Never drive after drinking alcohol. Don't smoke while you are driving or riding. Never attend any mobile call when you are driving. Always follow the road rules.

  • Keep Yourself Moving
"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it."

Do Physical Exercise
Adding physical exercise in your daily routine helps to live a healthy life. Exercise can help us to feel happier, clear our thoughts, be more productive, live a positive life, along with proper diet it helps to control our weight also. Regular exercise, jogging, brisk walking, cycling, taking part in outdoor games and sports, etc prevents your body to be catch by diseases. This also reduce the risk of heart attack or any heart disease. These activities also help in proper functioning of metabolism system which automatically helps to control the weight. This protect our body from obesity or overweight.

Use Your Feet
Walking is one of the best exercise for the good health. Use your feet instead of a car, bus or elevator is a good start. Walk helps to keep your blood pressure accurate. It also helps to keep you safe from heart diseases. Parents should encourage their children to walk.
Age doesn't matter to start this. No matter what your age is, you can benefit from moderate physical exercise. 
Walking instead of using any vehicle is beneficial from other aspects also like it doesn't cost even a penny so its economical, it saves energy, etc.
Do the exercise according to your potential. Exercise need not to be painful for your body.

Keep Learning
There are so many public and private institutions which provides health educational programs. Join these programs and educate yourself about basic ways to improve your health. Their are literature on a wide range of health topics.Lots of websites are there which provides health related information. You can ask to doctors online for any quarry and can get the answer for your doubts. Keep an open mind and be willing to make simple adjustments.  

Improve Your Bad Habits 
Its never late to start improving yourself. Never think that its too late to start for improving your bad habits. But remember for this strong motivation is required. Never feel demotivated. Motivate yourself as well as to your family member to improve the bad habits. There could be no higher or more motivation reason to take care of one's health.

In this world its possible for anyone to attain perfect health by strong motivation, determination, positiveness along with some small adjustments. Never feel anxiety or undue stress due to the health concern. Instead, just try to avoid things that needlessly shorten life and impair its quality. This way may help you to get a good health and to lead a healthy life.
