To create a Sparkle Trail firstly we will create a new brush and then we will use that brush to create the sparkle trail.
Step 1
Open a new document by pressing ctrl+n or go through File > New. Keep the width and height 150px and Background Contents with White.
Step 2
Select the Brush Tool from tools palette or press B on your key board. Set Black as your foreground color and White as background color.
Step 3
Open brush window by going through Window > Brush. Click on the Brush Preset column on the top left side. You can open Brush Preset directly by Window > Brush Preset. Choose Star 55 Pixels brush.
Step 4
Click three-four spots randomly with the brush by clicking the mouse.
Step 5
Now, choose Soft Round brush and set its size as 14px.
Step 6
Click three-four spots randomly as we did earlier.
Step 7
Click the small arrow on the brush window on the top right side to drop down the menu. Choose Assorted Brushes from the drop down menu and then click on Append.
Step 8
Assorted Brushes will add some new brushes in the brush palette; choose Starburst Small Brush from the list.
Step 9
Click three-four spots with this brush also (as we did with earlier brushes).
Step 10
If your document requires being crop (if there is any extra space which can increase the size of the brush) then use crop tool from tool palette or just click C on your keyboard.
Your document will look like this.
Step 11
This is the brush shape we need. Now, we will define the brush name. Go to the Edit in the menu bar and then click on Define Brush Preset.
Step 12
Give the name you like to your brush. I will give Sparkle Brush to mine.
Step 13
Open the photo, you like to add sparkle trail in and a new layer above the background layer by clicking on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the layer palette.
Name this layer Sparkle by double clicking on the layer in the layer palette.
Step 14
Now, choose the brush tool from the tool palette or just click B on your key board.
Step 15
Choose the brush which we have created from the brush palette. (Window > Brush > Brush Presets > Sparkle Brush).
Step 16
Set white as your foreground color. For this just click X on your keyboard or click on the foreground color icon and choose the white color from the color palette.
Step 17
Click on the Shape Dynamics option in the brush palette, don't click directly in the check box, (Brush > Shape Dynamics). Set the control option as Fade. For this click scroll down options and choose Fade from those option. Then fill 28 in the next box to the control. This value will vary according to the size of the picture you want to edit.
Step 18
Now, click on the Scattering option on the left side of the brush palette (Brush > Scattering). Apply the following setting.
Step 19
Click on the Brush Tip Shape and set the brush spacing to 25%.
Step 20
Now our brush is ready to create the effect. To do this just click the place from where you want to start the sparkle trail or you want to show the object creating the sparkle trail and then drag out a brush stroke in the direction you want to show the sparkle trail is going on.
Step 21
We will add some glow in this sparkle trail. For this create a duplicate layer of the sparkle layer by dragging the sparkle layer to the New Layer Icon or just click ctrl+j.
Step 22
Add some realistic look and some glow by adding some blur. Go through Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
Step 23
Place the following value in the dialogue box.
Step 24
Now, duplicate the sparkle copy layer in the same way as we did earlier.
Step 25
Click Add a Layer Style icon at the bottom of the layer palette and choose outer glow option.
Step 26
Set the following setting. You can choose the color according to your picture.
